Mai Halonen

Player: Finch

Profession: Anomalous Art Specialist

Demeanour: Mai is quite sarcastic, and does not have a very high respect for the bureaucratic aspects of the Foundation. Others often see them as childish, though they are professional in their demeanor when it truly matters (or when their superiors are near.)

Nature: Mai is a strong believer in the freedom of all people, and believes that the world should not be taken as seriously as some take it. Though this aspect of their personality pertains much to Are We Cool Yet, what drove them to the Foundation is their belief in the value of life. They view human life as more valuable than anything else.

Description: Mai is a younger non-binary person, in their late twenties, with black hair. They are Asian, and their family originates from Korea, though they were born in Finland. They usually wear a suit while at work, as well as black boots. Despite their suit, they often wear coats or other winter gear inside, as they claim to always be cold. They are 5 foot 6, and their eyes are brown.

Background History

Mai was born in Finland to a professor mother and a behavioral specialist father. During their youth, they were found to have quite an aptitude for art, especially sculptures. their bedroom soon became her pottery studio, where they would create vases and similar objects.

When they graduated high school, they decided to study overseas, at the Vancouver Institute of Media Arts in Canada. They began as an undecided major, and never declared a major. During their sophomore year, they befriended a group of local artists who wanted to make use of their sculptures. It wasn’t long before they were being invited to galleries and exhibitions with these friends
.
They soon met more friends: The friends of their friends, who introduced them to a group known as Are We Cool Yet. As they became more involved with this group, they became less involved with their studies, and soon they had dropped out of college and moved in with several members of this group.
Mai stayed with this group for seven years. They continued her work with sculpture, but their work began to involve sculptures with sentience and bladed implements. They became detached from her old life. All they cared for was art. Or, what Are We Cool Yet thought to be art.

That was, until one of their sculptures resulted in death. At an exhibition, their “experience nature” exhibit included an anatomically accurate sculpture of a venus fly trap. Visitors were encouraged to enter the plant, to “see what would happen.”

What happened was the death of an innocent. This incident brought Mai back to their senses, and they realized what they had devoted themself to. When the Foundation took over the investigation of this incident, they admitted to causing it, but offered to join the Foundation, in exchange for not being imprisoned. They became an anomalous art specialist, in the Foundation’s service, though they remember well her days spent with Are We Cool Yet. More than that, they remembers watching their art kill an innocent.
