Kazimir Mikhailovich

Player: Kazimir “Kaz” Artem Mikhailovich

Profession: Legion Engineer

Demeanour: A jovial man, Kaz is as wont to tell a crude joke as he is to lapse into a long story. However, the use of modern technology sometimes flusters him, owing to his recent return to the modern world.

Nature: Beneath the playful exterior is a world-weary old soldier. Despite this, Kaz has resolved to make something of himself, and to one day return to a "normal" life.

Description: Standing at 5'10", Kaz is a wiry man, lightly built for sustained action, with short, brown hair and grey eyes. He typically dresses simply, often wearing simple shirts and wool pants, though he has begun to experiment with more varied styles. His hands are rough and worn, with dozens of small nicks and scars covering his arms, and speaks with a heavily Russian accent.

Background History

Born in Magnitogorsk, Kaz grew up during the formative years of the Soviet Union, and through the multitude of political upheavals and uncertainty that marked them. The son of a steelworker and baker, his family managed to stay together despite the trials they faced.

During the Second World War Kaz joined one of the newly-formed sapper armies, fighting across Russia and into Europe, taking part in several major battles along the way. First assigned to an engineering brigade at Stalingrad, Kaz took part in the building of defensive fortifications, until reassigned to an artillery division in 1943.

However, it was the occupation of Germany that changed Kaz’s life forever. While working in the rebuilding of Soviet-occupied Berlin, Kaz was ordered to shoot a group of civilians who had been caught stealing food. All too familiar with the hardships that he himself had faced in his youth, Kaz instead shot his political officer.

Effectively a dead man, Kaz fled to the French sector of Berlin in a desperate bid to escape pursuit. There, he was put on a plane to Paris, and went to the recruiting office of the French Foreign Legion, the famed unit of vagabonds, criminals, and runaways seeking a fresh start.

Taking quickly to legion life, Kaz lived around and worked with many veterans of the war, forming bonds with fellow soldiers quickly. However, these bonds were quickly tested as they were called upon to serve in the First Indochina War, as a combat engineer attached to an airborne company. For three years Kaz fought, and saw his unit annihilated and reformed. (At Route Coloniale 4). Once his company reformed, they were once again sent into battle.

En route to their area of operations Kaz’s unit was shot down over the jungle. Though most of his unit survived, they were scattered and lost—far from friendly lines. On their trek towards allied lines, he and his unit encountered an unknown entity, described as ‘first appearing and acting as any other civilian, offering us food and shelter.’ However, they were quickly taken prisoner, as relations between the soldiers and the entity soon soured. Imprisoned in a cave, Kaz and his unit were held captive in a nonstandard temporal anomaly for 63 years, though only weeks passed for the legionnaires.

Eventually rescued by the intervention of a Foundation MTF, Kaz returned to a vastly different world than he had left. Left with few options, Kaz opted to join the Foundation with the hopes of one day being able to rejoin the world at large.
